7 Simple Steps to Achieve Wisdom

If you want to dig into the Bible or learn more about following God's instruction you are wanting wisdom. God wants all of his children to gain insight. He wants us to get wisdom and get insight, not to forget, and not turn away from the words of his mouth. (Proverbs 4:5) God's wisdom will guard us.

What is Biblical Wisdom?

Biblical wisdom is different than wisdom. Biblical wisdom is a keen insight into life, a Christian way of dealing with problems, and following God's will and purpose for our life. It is the words from God's mouth.

The beginning of knowledge

The beginning of wisdom is
The Beginning of Wisdom is Knowledge
knowledge. The beginning of knowledge is the fear of the Lord.
"To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth-- Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." -Proverbs 1:1-7 ESV

The Call of Wisdom

Wisdom is the Words of God's Mouth
When wisdom calls we need to hear and listen. We know that wisdom is the words of God's mouth. We shouldn't ignore the call of wisdom. We can listen to the words of God's mouth by reading the Holy Bible and studying.

"Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: "How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord, Would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster." -Proverbs 1:20-33 ESV

I don't know about you, but I don't want to ignore the call of wisdom. I don't want to ignore God's counsel. I wouldn't want to be mocked by God or have terror strike me. I want to be secure.

The first step to achieving wisdom:

Listen to the Voice of God to Gain Wisdom
Listening: Listen when wisdom calls. We need to listen to the voice of God to gain wisdom.
(Proverbs 8:1, 4, 6, 34). The words Listen and Silent are spelled with the same letters. In order to listen, we must be silent. Sometimes God stays silent until we are ready to listen.

The word listen (listened, listening) is in the NIV Bible 412 times, in the KJV only once. The word hear appears in the KJV 516 times.

The Value of Wisdom

The Value of wisdom is understanding the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. You will also understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path. Read Proverbs chapter 2.

The second step to achieving wisdom:

Reading: EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!!! Reading the Bible will help us listen to the voice of God to gain wisdom. (Joshua 8:34)

A Father's Wise Instruction

Keep Hold of Instruction and Don't Let Go
Hearing the Fathers instruction, being attentive so we can gain insight. Hold fast his words and keep his commandments, and live. Keep hold of instruction and don't let go. (Proverbs 4)

The third step to achieving wisdom:

Praying: Praying for God's wisdom will help us attain wisdom. God will lead us. (James 1:5, Proverbs 2:6)

The Blessings of Wisdom

Wisdom is truth. Wisdom dwells with
Wisdom is Truth
prudence and finds knowledge and discretion. Riches and honor are with wisdom, enduring wealth and righteousness. Those who love wisdom will be granted an inheritance.

"And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death." -Proverbs 8:32-36

All these blessings you can have by finding wisdom.

The Fourth step to achieving wisdom:

Choose: Choose instruction and knowledge. (Proverbs 8:10)

The Way of Wisdom

Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight. -Proverbs 9:6

When you leave your life of sin and simple ways and live life for Christ and walk in wisdom, insight, and understanding; God will add days and years to your life.

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. -Proverbs 9:9

Trying to give instruction to someone who doesn't want it will get you hated. Wise people want more wisdom.

The Fifth Step to Achieving Wisdom:

Wisdom Loves Those That Love It. Proverbs 8:17
Love Wisdom: Wisdom loves those that love it. (Proverbs 8:17)

Words of the Wise

Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
That your trust may be in the Lord, I have made them known to you today, even to you. -Proverbs 22:17-19

Hear and listen to wisdom, don't turn away from it. Apply your heart and your life to his knowledge. Put your trust in the Lord. Trust that he will guide you.

The Sixth Step to Achieving Wisdom:

Keep Wisdom: (Proverbs 8:32)

Those who keep the Lord's ways are blessed. Keep wisdom and be blessed.

The Seventh Step to Achieving Wisdom:

Fear the Lord: Fearing the Lord is the
Fearing the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom
beginning of wisdom! (Proverbs 9:10)

When we fear the Lord and seek wisdom our days will be multiplied and years will be added to our life.

In Closing:

We should seek the Lord and his wisdom. Fearing the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, therefore if we want wisdom we need to fear the Lord. When we seek wisdom we are blessed by the Lord.

God never fails. Everything works for his good.  Everything God does is intentional. Some people think that God made mistakes, but the truth is, God doesn't make mistakes. God makes people the way they are for a purpose, he aligns things to happen at certain times which can frustrate some but it is with intention.

Your frustration may be someone's answer to prayer or your own answer to prayer. Here is what I
mean; You're on your way to work and get held up at a long red light, you continue down the road to get stopped at 5 more red lights. Now you're frustrated because you're going to be late to work. What you don't realize is that God put those red lights in front of you to avoid an accident with another driver that was praying for a safe ride to work. God intentionally slowed you down so the both of you could arrive to work safely.

God never fails. Everything works for His good.   He does things for our good. He directs our paths with intention.

God is mighty, but despises no one; he is mighty, and firm in his purpose. -Job 36:5

How can we live intentionally?

"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

Command and teach these things. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." -1 Timothy 4:1-16

1. "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons." We need to be intentional, watching and listening. We need to make sure we stay on the path of righteousness, following God and not deceptive spirits. We need to stand up for the truth and not follow the hypocritical liars. Let's not abandon our faith, stand firm!

Training ourselves to be godly helps us to hold promise for our present life and our eternal life.2. "If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed." We need to be intentional in helping our sisters and brothers in Christ stay on the right path. We need to minister to one another so we don't get lost and wander off. We need to be intentional and train ourselves to be godly. This way we don't abandon the faith and only follow the truth. Training ourselves to be godly helps us to hold promise for our present life and our eternal life.

3. "Command and teach these things. Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching." Be intentional in teaching these things. Keep going even when people look down on you or tell you that you can't or shouldn't be teaching these things. Anyone at any age can teach the truth and lead others to God. Conduct yourself intentionally in your speech, in love, in faith and in purity.

4. " Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you." When God gives you your gift and it has been prophesied to you, be intentional and use that gift. Practice your gift daily.

5. "Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." Be intentional in these matters. Watch what you do because people are watching and listening. You may be the only Bible that some people are reading. Be intentional in spreading the Word of God, the truth.

Not only do we need to be intentional in our words but we need to also ACT on these things.

  Everything works for our good.

How can we be an intentional learner?
Be intentional
We need to be intentional learners by reading the Bible, intentionally seeking the truth. We should
be reading the Bible to learn more about the individual gifts that have been assigned to us. We should desire and strive to learn more about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Digging into the word daily helps us with our walk with Christ, it helps us to be stronger Christians so that we can spread the good news without being hypocrites.

In closing:

Be intentional and desire to get to know God better every day. God is intentional and makes everything work for our good. We can be intentional and seek God daily.

Do you live your life intentionally? Have you seen God work intentionally in your life?
