Desire to Help the Homeless

Desire to Help the Homeless

The top 10 cities with the largest homeless populations are New York City with an estimated 76,500, Los Angeles with an estimated 55,200, Seattle with an estimated 11,650, San Diego with an estimated 9,200, Washington D.C with an estimated 57,000, San Jose with an estimated 7,400, San Francisco with an estimated 6,900, Las Vegas with an estimated 6,500, Boston with an estimated 6,150, and Philadelphia with an estimated 5,700 according to
Homelessness can be caused by a number of things such as poverty, unemployment, lack of affordable housing, poor health, drug or alcohol abuse, gambling, family breakdown, domestic violence and abuse as reported by the Salvation Army.
I love seeing people help the homeless. What I'd really love to see is people helping the homeless get off the street and back on their feet. There are a few people who build tiny homes for the homeless, which I think is amazing.
I have a huge heart for the Homeless. My husband and I would love to open a homeless shelter one day. This wouldn't be an ordinary shelter, it would be the best homeless shelter anyone has seen or heard of ( of course I'm biased). We have started a business plan for it and I can't wait to finish it.
God also has a heart for the homeless.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘’ Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you? And the king will answer them, ‘’ Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. - Matthew 25:35-40
When we help the homeless we help the Lord.
A lot of people won't help the homeless because they are afraid of what they will do with the money. But, I think it goes deeper than that because there are other options. Instead of giving homeless people money you could give them clothes, shoes, blankets, a motel or hotel room for a night or a week, a ride to a job center to look for jobs, or even a bus pass to be able to get where they need to go.
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed. - Proverbs 19:17

The Lord will bless you when you give to the poor.
What does Homelessness look like?
My husband and I were homeless for about five months in 2013. We stayed in a motel for a week and before going to a homeless shelter we stayed at my job for two nights just so we could keep our kids in a safe place. All of the homeless shelters in the city were full or would separate families for sleeping arrangements. No homeless shelter was geared towards family except one. Thankfully God pointed us in the direction of a family homeless shelter. The only problem is they had less than ten rooms and a bit of a wait. We called just in time to get a room.
Many shelters only serve one meal a day if any. Homeless people have a hard time finding soup kitchens because most are only open once a week. They have a hard time finding food. When my family was homeless we were blessed with a place that had breakfast and dinner, but they closed for lunch. Most shelters close during the day forcing everyone back into the streets. They are also mostly first come, first serve and you have to bring your stuff with you wherever you go because there is no safe place to keep your stuff.
Not everyone is blessed to have family that can help them with a place to stay or with food to eat. A lot of the homeless population are homeless because they don't have the help they need. We need to be the change they need.
Being homeless sucks, it's depressing, and you feel hopeless. Unless you find the right people or programs to help you out, you're pretty much stuck in your situation.
We need more people and programs to help, not just with shelter or food but by taking steps to help them get back on their feet.

Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered. - Proverbs 21:13

Let's work together and end homelessness. Let's be the change this world needs and that the Lord is calling us to be.

Revitalizing My First Love

Revitalizing My First Love

I'll admit it, I walked away and I shouldn't have. Many people have walked away from their first love and later regretted it. Some people go back while others completely forget about their first love.

There's been a longing and aching that had been pulling me back. He called my name and waited for me. He made a way for me to come back to him.

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. - Revelations 2:4

I still believed in God, still prayed, went to church, read my bible, but I didn't put God first. I was putting my sins first. God called out to me and asked me to put him first again. So, I ran back to him. I regret abandoning him and not putting him first.

We have all abandoned our first love, Jesus Christ! We need to place our first love first again. We need to run back to him, he's waiting, and he's still in love with us. When we walk away, his love fights for us. He tears down walls and moves mountains for us.

God loves each of us as if there we're only one of us. Augustine  I love God with everything in me. I want to do what he wants me to do. I want to be where God wants me to be. I never want to abandon God again because he never abandoned me. And God will never abandon you.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. - Mark 12:30

God shows us an unconditional, forgiving, merciful, and graceful love. The least we can do is love him back with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

Although we may not go back to our first boyfriend/girlfriend, we should turn back and go to our first love, the one who created us, Jesus Christ. He loves us more than anyone on this earth could. Don't forget about your first love. It's not too late to go back. He's reaching out for you. Will you reach out for him?

Beautifully Broken

Beautifully Broken

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

I sat there crying, in pain, knowing I did something to make this happen. I kept asking God why I deserved it. I know God didn't cause it to happen. I wanted someone by my side, comforting me, telling me everything was going to be ok. I was crushed. I had been through enough in life, why this

too? I kept blaming myself.
He left. My husband of only three months got fed up and left. We had been fighting every day for two weeks. Instead of trying to fix it he left. I tried everything to get him to come back home. I'll admit, I questioned God. Who would I be if I didn't? I'm only human.
Sincerely Silver

We need to have a God-centered marriage
The next eight months were the worst eight months of my life. I filed the divorce with the court, they served my husband, and a court date was set. A couple of months after I filed, I still hadn't heard back from the court. He still hadn't signed the papers. I started to have hope that maybe we could salvage our marriage. Then, it happened, he signed the papers. I turned to God, went through divorce classes at church and still prayed that God would bring my husband home before it was too late.
About a week before our court date my husband asked me what it would take to work out our marriage and what I wanted. I was in shock but told him that I'd like to go to a marriage therapist and we needed to have a God-centered marriage. He agreed to it but said we aren't back together unless the therapist said it would be worth working it out. If the therapist said it isn't worth it, we would go our separate ways and go through with the divorce.

I scheduled an emergency meeting with a Christian therapist. I was nervous but I had Faith.
We walked in, sat down, and the therapist took a few notes. I looked at him and asked, “Will God allow this to work out, or should we just be done?” He looked at both of us and replied, “If you want your marriage to work it will work, if you don't it won't.” My husband and I looked at each other and grabbed hands.

That afternoon I called the court and asked her If it was too late to cancel court. Court was scheduled for the next day. She was happy that we worked things out and canceled our divorce.

In times of trouble, when I was broken to my core I ran to God. I surrendered and he broke me down so that I could be healed properly. He broke the both of us down so we could be broken gracefully and be set free.

God is forgiving and patient  My husband rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized. We continued with therapy and nightly devotions. We put God in the center of our marriage and watched him work on both of us. And, God isn't done yet.

I thank God that he is a forgiving God and a patient God. He waited for me to come to him and he fixed what was broken. He didn't let me or my marriage stay broken.

If you're broken, no matter what it is, share your brokenness with God, lay it down at his feet. God can heal, he can deliver, he can mend broken hearts. He's waiting for you. You're not broken goods, and you're not so broken that he can't fix you. Your past doesn't define you, God forgives, and you can still enter the kingdom of heaven.

God uses the broken! You can be a testimony for others going through what you’ve been through.

How has God used your testimony for others? Please comment below.

Learn All About Who God Is: 10 Reasons Why God Really Exists

This post may contain affiliate links

Learn All About Who God is.

10 reasons why God really exists.

I've been asked by unbelievers why I believe in God and told me why they don't believe in God. A lot of times, the reason they didn't believe in God was that of something that had happened to them growing up. Not all people who don't believe in God have the same story.

Why do unbelievers spend so much time trying to discredit God or try to prove that he doesn't exist, if, in fact, they don't believe there is a God and it doesn't matter to them?

Everyone has a burning desire deep down inside of them to find out who God is and if he exists. God put that burning desire in each and every one of us.

I'd like to answer a few questions for you.

Why does God allow bad things to happen?

Good & Evil
God has given us free will. The option to do good or evil, to choose to follow him or not, we have choices and we make our own choices. If God controlled everything to be good and no evil, no one would be able to make choices, everyone would be robots. God let us have free will and wants us to choose him because he chose us before we were even born. He desires us, loves us, and wants us to desire him. Bad things happen because of people's bad decisions or choices. There is evil in this world because of those peoples choices to follow evil instead of God. God isn't going to force someone's hand who wants to do evil. Those people had a choice. Sure God could stop the evil from happening, but that would take away from free will and our choices.

So, what about cancer and letting children die at the hands of murderers or children being molested?

Let's talk about cancer. Why is cancer different than people dying from natural causes, heart attacks, or any other ailment? It's not, but let me answer it this way. People make choices in life when it comes to health. My grandpa died of cancer, but I didn't blame God. My grandpa worked for many years around paints that contained led and other chemicals. Those chemicals cause cancer. It's humans that made the choice to put chemicals in paint. God didn't choose how people made the paint.

My grandma died of cancer as well. I don't blame God for death either. She was a smoker for a very long time. God didn't make the cigarettes that she smoked. People made the choice to make a product that once again was filled with chemicals linked to cancer. A product that was made legal. Why be mad at God? We should be mad at the companies making those horrific products, get mad at the lawmaker who allowed it to be legal. Getting cancer is a result of the choices we made through life. Eating foods that contained cancer-causing chemicals, using products on our bodies, I could name so many but cancer is a result of the choices we made throughout life. We should be going after the companies using these horrible chemicals in products, not God.

Now let's talk about murderers, child molesters, etc. Like I said above, God gives us free will. A choice to do good or evil, to follow him, seek him or not. Unfortunately, we have people in the world who choose to do evil. God punishes these people. They don't walk away, punishment free. If they don't get caught and punished here on earth, God will punish them on their day of judgment. On their day of judgment, there is nothing they can say or do for God to change his mind, they will spend the rest of their eternity in hell.

What if they ask for forgiveness, won't God forgive them? God may forgive them, but they won't go unpunished. Just like a parent disciplining their child, they forgive their child, but that child still receives punishment.

How do you know God is around, or that he's there?

A common answer you will hear is Christians say is that you just have to believe and have faith. For a lot of people, that isn't a sufficient answer. I want you to do me a favor and look at everything that isn't man-made. The oceans, mountains, forests, sunrise, sunset, stars, planets, galaxy, and universe. The beauty of nature. Have you ever wondered if maybe there was a higher power that did actually create all of this? Such a complicated, well designed, marvelous system. The most intelligent person who ever lived couldn't have designed something so vast and wonderful. An accident long ago couldn't have accidentally created all of this. If so, more accidents would have happened since. Once you accept God into your life as your Lord and savior, you can feel him everywhere, in everything you do.

God are you there?
God has always been there, he's just waiting for you to seek him, find him, and accept him. He loves you. He loves everything about you, he created you.

Here are 10 reasons why God exists with scripture reference:

1. God is the creator. God created the heavens and the earth. God is the creator and shows himself through his creations.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. Genesis 1:1

2. God cannot be seen. God cannot be seen because he is not a man. But, he makes himself known by his works. When he says he will do something it gets done. He fulfills his promises.

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. He has said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19

3. He claims he exists. We know he exists because he claims he exists. The Lord alone is God.

For ask now the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether such a great thing as this has ever happened or was ever heard of. Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live? Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him. Deuteronomy 4:32-35

4. God is everywhere. God is with us wherever we go. He does not leave you nor forsake you.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

5. God's promises. God keeps his promises for you and will never let his promises fail.

And now that I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed and all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed. Joshua 23:14

6. Everlasting life. Everyone dies, but God won't take away life. He lets people live throughout eternity in heaven.
We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast. 2 Samuel 14:14

7. He gives us wisdom and understanding.
And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand of the seashore, 1 Kings 4:29

    8. We exist because of God.
Yet for us, there is one God, the father, for whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 1 Corinthians 8:6

    9. Jesus told about God. If you believe Jesus existed, he even writes about God the father.

But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you the Son of God.” Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Matthew 26:63-64

People witness that Jesus is the Son of God.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” Mark 15:33-39

    10. Miracles. God still performs miracles and talks to people every day. He's performed many miracles for me, my family and friends.

How do you feel God's presence?

How do I feel God's presence?
Once you have accepted God as your Lord and Savior, you will start feeling his presence when you read the Bible, when you pray, when he's speaking to you through a sermon that a pastor is preaching, when you're worshipping him, etc.

Why do we have to go to church? Why is it such a big deal?

You should go to church to continue to hear God speak to you through sermons. Other people give different perspectives to the Bible that you couldn't understand just reading on your own. God gives us brothers and sisters in Christ to help keep us accountable, to help us with temptations, guide us when we're facing troubles/difficulties, a family of believers to pray with, to show God's love, to spread the word further than our own home. The church should be going out to its local city, other cities, other countries to spread the word of God, to spread God's love. You are chosen to be his hands and feet to help the church spread the good news.

How do we know that God spoke to the people who wrote the Bible? How do we Know it wasn't made up?

Many things mentioned in the Bible are still around today. There are also many other books that were written thousands of years ago that explain some of the same stories. For example, the story of David, God promised to keep David's descendants ruling over the house of the Lord and of Judah in Jerusalem until the end of the earth. David's descendants still reign in Judah to this day. Many of the things in the Bible have been proven to be true.

God is real, he is everywhere, he is with you, and he'll be in your heart if you let him. A lot of being a Christian requires faith. I hope this post explained things better for you than just hearing that you have to have faith.

I see God everywhere, in everything I do. I see the beauty he's created. I hear him speaking to me in many ways. My hope for you is that when you seek him you find him. And when you find him you hear him.

The Miracle of Who You Are: How to Avoid an Identity Crisis

this post may contain affiliate links

The Miracle of Who You Are!

How to avoid an identity crisis.

Who am I? Why do I exist? What's the purpose of life? Do these questions sound familiar?
Figure out who you are, why you exist and the purpose of life right here.

About 12 years ago an old friend told me that I didn't know who I was and that I needed to figure out who I am. I may have lost sight of who I was, but I know who I am. Do you know who you are?

Don't listen to the world tell you who you are. Don't let other people choose who you are. If you know who you are, don't let anyone tell you differently. Don't give people room to assume they know who you are, make them KNOW who you are!

Let's Get to the Truth Let's get to the truth about who you are.
John 1:12-13 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of men, but of God.

We won't be able to find out who we are by inward wandering. We need to look to our creator to find meaning.

Sometimes we need to be reminded of who we are. When we feel like we don't belong, we need to remember that we are HIS.

You will know who you are when you know who Jesus is.

Who is Jesus? Jesus is the son of God. Jesus laid down his life to give us ours.

Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

We are children of God, he wants us, he desires us. If we are God's children then we are heirs, heirs of God- the highest, most holy king! We are royalty!

Jesus came to seek and save the lost by making himself known. He became flesh to free us from our sin by dying on the cross. We are chosen, not forsaken.

This brings me to the questions: why do I exist and what is the purpose of life? My post Purpose and Love explains the answer to these two questions.
I am a child of God
Ultimately our purpose in life is to worship Jesus and be a witness to the truth. We are to share the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are to be his hands and feet and point others to him.

So, who are you? You are a child of God! Chosen and not forsaken. You are an heir of God. When you know who Jesus is, you will know who you are! No longer a slave!

What is your purpose? To spread the good news. Be a witness to those who don't know Him. Be a witness to those who have walked away and are having a hard time finding their way back. Help God by being his hands and feet.
